SCHOOL LIFE
In these pages we gather small fragments from the life of our school: moments of learning, work, wonder, friendship, celebration and growth together. For us, such activities are not merely added to education from the outside, but are part of the very way in which the child enters the wonderful world of God, learns to see the Good, the Beautiful and the true meaning of things, and grows in freedom, responsibility and joy. Step by step, through all these simple and living experiences, the children are helped not only to know more, but to become more fully themselves.
The Garden of Friendship
Today, the students and teachers of our school sowed the "seeds of friendship" - to be watered every day with a little attention, respect, patience and love. Under the gentle eyes of everyone: we grow!
Aikido Seminar
On Friday, 13 March, we had the joy of welcoming to our school Mr Dorin Marchis himself, President of the Romanian Aikido Foundation, together with whom both the adult group and the children’s group trained with great enthusiasm. The following day, they also took part in an international seminar — the first international aikido seminar for the aikido practitioners of our school. These are experiences that enrich both body and soul, and that remain in the memory through the joy, strength and inward growth they bring.
Biology Laboratory – Heart Dissection
As part of a Biology session in our small laboratory, our high school students took part in a heart dissection exercise, through which they were able to observe more closely the structure of this remarkable organ and to understand better some of its functions. With attention, curiosity and seriousness, they approached this practical activity as an occasion not only for learning, but also for wonder before the wisdom with which the living world is ordered.
Participation in the STEM University – KU Leuven
Students from our High School, aged between 12 and 18, participated on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in the STEM University, at the Campus Groep T of the University of Leuven.
Full of curiosity, they immersed themselves in the wonderful world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) listening to a fascinating lecture on how to cure genetic diseases, in one of the University's amphitheaters, and participated in a practical workshop, in English, "How to become a star detective?"
Christmas Carols at the Nursing Home
Each year, in the month of December, Saints Silouan and Sophrony High School’s choir, accompanied by a few parents, goes to sing carols at a nursing home, in order to bring joy and consolation to the elderly people living there. Through these visits, the children learn not only to sing beautifully together, but also to offer something of themselves — attention, warmth, gentleness and a small sign of love. It is always a moving encounter, full of light and tenderness, in which the joy of the feast begins quietly to be shared.
Kindergarten Autumn Celebration
Do you know how leaves dance when autumn arrives? Our youngest pupils delight in discovering this magic, and each year they joyfully share it with us. Golden leaves swirl and shimmer, while chestnuts keep a lively rhythm in the capable hands of our Grade 1 and 2 children. Through poems, songs, and above all, a spirit of pure joy, our little ones invite us to experience the wonder of the season through their eyes.

The Ambassadors of the Czech Republic and Romania, accompanied by the Mayor of Huldenberg, visit Saints Silouan and Sophrony High School
The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Belgium, Mr. Jakub Skalnic, wanted to visit our school to personally hand over to Ioana Iacomi, a student in the third grade, the diploma she received at the 53rd edition of the International Art Competition in Lidice, with the theme "THE GAME". Students from 69 countries participated in the competition, and Ioana's work was evaluated together with 12,772 other works.
Another opportunity to enjoy and celebrate together! The joy was shared with all the students and teachers of the school, who welcomed the guests with a short artistic moment, and the Romanian Ambassador to Belgium, Ms. Andreea Pastarnac, and the Mayor of Huldenberg, Mr. Danny Vangoidtsenhoven, were also present at the award ceremony, who gave short speeches.
Outdoor Survival Camp
Outdoor Survival Camp
As part of this activity, the children were placed in a new and challenging setting, in order to learn how to organise themselves, to overcome certain limits, and to grow in self-knowledge, presence of mind and practical wisdom. They learned something of orientation in the forest, of attentiveness to their surroundings, and of how to make use, with discernment, of the environment in which they find themselves — to be where they are, with what they have. Such experiences help them grow not only in confidence and resilience, but also in freedom, responsibility and a more living relationship with the world around them.
Opening of the 2025–2026 School Year
Opening of the 2025–2026 School Year
With gratitude and joy, we began the 2025–2026 school year, the tenth year in the life of our school since its founding in 2016. Each new beginning brings with it hope, responsibility and the quiet joy of setting out once again on the road of growth, learning and becoming together. We received this new school year as a gift and as a new opportunity to continue, with God’s help, this work of formation entrusted to us.
School Journey to Dobrogea
School Journey to Dobrogea
Each year, our school seeks to organise a week-long journey to a different region of Romania, so that the children may come to know this country more closely and at a deeper pace. This year, the journey led us to Dobrogea — a beautiful trip during which we discovered new places, encountered wonderful people, and received many quiet gifts of joy, learning and shared memory. Such moments help the children grow not only in knowledge, but also in love for the places, people and inheritance that have been entrusted to them.
The Blessing of a New Beginning
The Blessing of a New Beginning
With the beginning of the 2024–2025 school year, we received a double joy: the opening of a new school year and the blessing of our freshly renovated school building after the fire. After a year and a half marked by much sacrifice, patience and generous help, we were able to return to our own space and resume the life of the school in the place entrusted to us.
This moment was made possible through the wonderful mobilization of the whole parish, through the support of the local authorities, and through the many quiet acts of care that carried us through this time of trial. We give thanks to God for this new beginning, and for the joy of seeing the children once again learning, playing and growing together in the restored building, with hope renewed and hearts full of gratitude.
A Time of Trial
A Time of Trial
On the night of 5 February 2023, our school was struck by a major fire. By God’s mercy, no human lives were lost, but all the classrooms were affected, either directly by the flames or by the large quantities of water used to extinguish them. It was a painful and sobering moment for our whole school community.
Yet even in the midst of this trial, we were not left alone. Through the prompt help of the local authorities, and in particular of Mayor Danny Vangoidtsenhoven, the children were temporarily welcomed into the classrooms of the local state school, so that lessons could continue. We remain deeply grateful for this help, and we entrust this difficult time to God, asking for strength, patience and good hope as we begin the work of rebuilding.
Christmas Market
Stories with Ioana Revnic
Saint Nicholas has come!
The ballet of a story: The Little Prince
Visit to the Grez-Doiceau wastewater treatment plant
The first letters from Bucharest
Visit of IPS Macarie
